BACK TO FIXTURES & RESULTS
PREVIOUS GAME
With
Fragoso suspended for the return leg after his red card last week Mansilla comes
in again to partner Delgado at the heart of the defense, whilst Cifu returns to
left back after his suspension otherwise the starting line up is the same as
last week. With the cadistas in the Carranza hoping for a festival of football
in this final game of the season, they were not going to be disappointed as los
amarillos went about the visitors looking to score whenever possible. It was all
one way traffic in the opening half hour except for one scary moment when Dani came out to collect a through ball but bounced into
Delgado and promptly lost the ball, which fell to the feet of Mena but the young
Cadiz keeper was quick to react and managed to dive and nick the ball away as
the forward was preparing to shoot. However apart from that one lapse it was all
Cadiz with Caballero having three very clear
chances to score, his first chance was when he ran onto a through ball from
Ormazabal with just Castilla, the Cartagena keeper to beat, but the Cadiz
midfielders first touch was terrible and it allowed the keeper to easily collect
the ball, his second chance was almost a carbon copy of the first when again he
found himself in a one on one situation but this time he took tool long and got
too close to the keeper before trying to slide the ball in, which gave Castilla
enough time to thwart the effort and his final chance came from a good passage
of play down the left with Caballero wriggling into space in the area with just
the keeper to beat but this time he got his shot away swiftly but dragged it
wide of the post. He was not the only culprit though as the rampant Cadiz seemed
to be able to cut through the Cartagena defense like a hot knife through butter.
Rubiato was too slow to control the ball with just the keeper ahead of him,
Ormazabal burst through the last line of the visiting defense but fired his shot
wide of the mark but finally after little more than half an hour had been played
the breakthrough came when Caballero chased a through ball on the right side of
the area, which he pulled back to Lopez Silva and his cross fell to Rubiato who
fired home from two yards out. With that goal however the Cadiz players seemed
to lose their shape as they threw everything in trying to increase the lead,
which left too many spaces at the back and the equaliser was not long in coming
when just four minutes after going ahead some last ditch defending by Cristian
racing back saw him penalised by the referee giving Cartagena a free kick just
outside the Cadiz box on the left side. The ball was swung across and with the
Cadiz players standing in a line claiming offside Armando had no trouble in
latching on to the ball and firing it past a helpless Dani to make it all
square. There was still time before half time for Rubiato to miss another
glorious opportunity after some great work by the ever impressive Lopez Silva
when he failed to connect with the right wingers cross when just two yards out.
The second half was not quite as exciting as the first but Cadiz had several
more chances to increase their goal tally whilst Dani was only called into
action to collect some high balls pumped forward. Just ten minutes into the half
a great break by Cadiz and a surging run by the captain, Cristian, saw the right
back racing towards goal with just Castilla in front of him and as the Cartagena
keeper came out Cristian lobbed the ball over him but his effort was agonisingly
just the wrong side of the post. Another swift break by los amarillos down the
left by Cifu with three other Cadiz players with him found the left back choose
the wrong option when trying a shot on goal instead of playing in Cortes just to
his left and his effort was easily caught by Castilla. Then Cortes wriggled past
three defenders on the right of the Cartagena box and was just about to unload
the ball when he appeared to be brought down but the referee waved play on. In
the final minute of the game Ormazabal burst through with just the keeper to
beat again and Rosu free to his left but as the Argentinian prepared to shoot or
pass he appeared to be clipped from behind for a penalty but again the referee
just waved play on to the astonishment of the Cadiz players and fans. In the end
the missed chances and several questionable refereeing decisions did not matter
as the final whistle blew with the game all square, which means that Cadiz win
3-2 on aggregate and are the inaugural champion of champions of the Segunda B.
