Cadiz 2-1 Real Jaen - A good start to the new season with three points in the bag but it was anything but convincing. Cadiz went ahead shortly before half time when Carlos Caballero fired in a direct free kick. The visitors equalised with less than ten minutes to play and then in the very last minute of time added on Aaron Bueno converted to make it 2-1. Read match report here.

Copa del Rey - Parla 1-5 Cadiz - In the first preliminary round of this seasons Copa del Rey los amarillos had no difficulties in despatching third division side Parla tonight. Star of the contest was Velasco who just couldn't stop finding the net as out of the 6 goals scored he was responsible for 4 of them, three for Cadiz and one own goal to provide a little consolation to the home side. As early as the third minute Cadiz were ahead when Velasco intercepted a poor clearance from the home keeper and slotted home from a tight angle to make it 0-1. Four minutes later and Carlos Caballero floated in a free kick into the penalty area and the ball came loose to Velasco and he made no mistake in scoring his and los amarillos second to make it 0-2. The home side had a chance of reducing the deficit when Joseph got the better of Alvaro Silva but with just Dani to beat he fired wide of the mark. With Cadiz pretty much in complete control it was just a question of how many they would score and in the 35th minute Enrique crossed from the right for Diego to control the ball well and fire home to make it 0-3.

Just two minutes into the second half and it was another goal for Velasco but unfortunately this time he managed to beat his own keeper, Dani, to make it 1-3 but there was no need to panic as just three minutes later Velasco cancelled out the own goal when he scored his third for Cadiz when he nodded home a Caballero corner to make it 1-4. The final goal of the night was scored by Enrique in the 66th minute when another poor clearance by the keeper was pounced on by the Cadiz man and he slotted it home for a resounding victory to los amarillos 1-5. Their next match in the preliminary rounds of the cup is against Hospitalet next Wednesday, 1st September at 21.00 at the Carranza. Before that they kick off their quest to gain promotion with the opening game of the season against Real Jaen kicking off on Sunday, 29th at 19.00.

Cadiz: Dani, Cifu, Alvaro Silva, Baquero, Diego Reyes, Jurado, Carlos Caballero (Lopez Silva  64 mins), Cortes, Velasco, Diego (Aaron, 73 mins) and Enrique (Pachon 67 mins).

20th August 2010

La Balona Linense 3-1 Cadiz - In their final pre-season game before the preliminary round of the Copa del Rey, which is next Wednesday, Cadiz visited La Linea to take on a strong La Balona side. Within 5 minutes the home side were ahead when Liam floated in a free kick from the left and Alberto Merino was able to dive and head the ball past Dani to make it 1-0. Los amarillos are making a bit of a habit of going behind to early goals and Vidakovic must ensure that the defense concentrate from the initial whistle. Cadiz could have drawn level shortly after when Diego was free with just Camacho, the Balona keeper, to beat but he put his effort wide of the mark. Just after the ten minute mark Domingo made Dani save his effort and a couple of minutes later Camacho had to be alert to save from his own player, Fries, as he miscued an attempted clearance. On the half hour Domingo fired over the Cadiz bar and immediately los amarillos attacked and Carlos Caballero stole a ball in the middle of the park and played a great ball into space for Enrique to run onto and fire home to make it all square. Cadiz could have been ahead if Caballero had managed to connect with a cross from Enrique but it was the home side who were ahead before half time when, with just 3 minutes to go the end of the half, Liam fired over a corner and this time Carlos Guerra leapt highest and nodded powerfully in the net to make it 2-1.

In the second half with many team changes, including the welcome return after injury of Lopez Silva for his first appearance of this season, the match became a bit sloppy with the home side looking the more dangerous and in the 71st minute Copi stole the ball from Alvaro Silva in a dangerous position and passed to Catalan Javi who fired past a helpless Dani to make it 3-1. It could have been worse for los amarillos had Dani not thwarted Guerra and Unai but in the final minute Arriaga almost nicked a consolation second when his header was well saved by the replacement keeper, Valades.

The Cadiz line up tonight was: Dani , Alvaro Silva, Jurado(Tiri 69 mins), Baquero(Ruben Diaz 46 mins), Cifu(Pecci 53 mins), Enrique(Aaron 61 mins), Fran Cortes(Lolo 61 mins), Diego Reyes(Moke 69 mins), Diego(Lopez Silva 70 mins), Arriaga and Carlos Caballero(Velasco 61 mins).

14th August 2010

The three team tournament hosted in Puerto de Santa Maria between the local club, Racing Portuense, San Fernando and Cadiz saw all three teams finish on 3 points from their two 45 minute games with the results going as follows: San Fernando 1-0 Cadiz with the Cadiz team being Campos, Pecci, Díaz (Alvaro Silva 26 mins), Baquero, Tiri, Moke, Lolo, Velasco, Dieguito, Cortes and Hugo Garcia, the only goal coming in the 37th minute from Guerrero. Portuense 1-2 Cadiz with the Cadiz line up being Campos, Pecci, Alvaro Silva, Baquero (A. Jurado 30 mins), Tiri, Moke, J.M. Caballero, Lolo, Diego, Garcia and Aaron (C. Caballero 24 mins) with the home side going ahead in the 25th minute but then Carlos Caballero played in Hugo Garcia to level just three minutes later and Arriaga in the 31st minute to score the winner and  Portuense 3-2 San Fernando.

So it was to a penalty shoot out with the clubs battling it out in the same line up from the earlier games and so San Fernando lost 1-4 to Cadiz; next Portuense and Cadiz drew 4-4 and finally Portuense won 3-1 against San Fernando. That meant that both Cadiz and Portuense had notched up 4.5 points each (3 for a win, 1 for a shoot out victory and a half for the shoot out draw). With the Cadiz fans expecting their team to lift the trophy as los amarillos had beaten Portuense in their game and normally that is taken into account but in the end it went to Portuense because they had scored more goals during the games, 4 against Cadiz' 3.

11th August 2010

Arcos 1-3 Cadiz - The initial starting line up for this next pre-season match was: Dani, Cifu, Alvaro Silva, Baquero, Juanito, Jurado, Cortes, Enrique, Diego, C. Caballero and Arriaga and it didn't take long for los amarillos to make their mark on the game when the always impressive Carlos Caballero played the ball to Arriaga who fired home to make it 0-1 in the 12th minute. The home side fought back and Dani had to pull off a couple of excellent stops to thwart Arcos and keep Cadiz ahead. Just a few minutes before the end of the half the Arcos keeper Jairo cleared the ball but it fell straight to Arriaga who smashed the ball back from 25 yards out and doubled the lead. With a new set of players for the second half the Cadiz line up was: Campos, Velasco, Hugo, Moke, Adri, Pecci, Lolo, Diaz, Victor, Tiri and J.M. Caballero. The game was virtually won after Velasco fired home from inside the area to make it 0-3 with less than half an hour to play but Ciri got a super consolation effort in the final minute to make it 1-3.

8th August 2010

Trofeo de Carranza Final - Espanyol 1-1 Athletico Madrid (Espanyol won 4-3 on penalties) - What a start to the game when with many of the fans still taking their seats Athletico went ahead after Diego Costa nodded a corner home in the opening minute. Espanyol  however were soon back on level terms when Callejon was played through in the fifth minute and slotted the ball beyond Alvarez to make it 1-1. With both sides looking up for the challenge the game was played at pace with Athletico looking the more dangerous but despite having several chances they were unable to break the deadlock in normal time, in no small measure thanks to ex Cadiz keeper, Kiko Casilla , who had come on half way through the first half to replace the injured Alvarez. With the teams all square at the final whistle it was to be decided by the penalty shoot out, the third out of the four matches played and the hero of the hour was Casilla who saved two of the efforts from Athletico and saw his new team come out victors of the Trofeo, 4-3 in the shoot out.

Trofeo de Carranza consolation final - Cadiz 2-3 Sevilla - In this consolation game Vidakovic gave a chance to the new signings and young B team players, who have been training to try and make the first team squad a permanent position. With Sevilla also putting out a team of non regulars the first half was not much to right home about although Cadiz went ahead in the 5th minute when Jose Caballero nodded home a corner. The lead was short lived however when just a few minutes later Fazio headed home to make it all square, which is how it stayed until half time.

The second half was a different kettle of fish with plenty of end to end action and both sides having space and creating chances with los amarillos having the better of the chances initially but without managing to re-take the lead with Aaron, looking lively and Velasco almost nodding home. It was Sevilla that scored next when Negredo, for what seemed like the umpteenth time had been played in between the Cadiz centre back and right back, and this time he coolly chipped the ball beyond Campos in the Cadiz goal to make it 1-2 in the 63rd minute. The lead didn't last long when six minutes later Moke was hauled down in the box when challenging for a free kick and the referee awarded a penalty, which Aaron took and made it 2-2. Regrettably Negredo found more space in a similar to position than previous and again slotted home to make it 2-3 to Sevilla in the 75th minute. Cifu who came on in the 79th minute managed to pick up two yellow cards within 10 minutes reducing Cadiz to ten men shortly before the final whistle.

Starting line up for Cadiz: Campos (Juanfer77 mins), Pecci, German (Cifu 79 mins), Diaz, Tiri, Moke, Velasco (Enrique 66 mins), J-M Caballero (Cortes 66 mins), Lolo (C. Caballero 77 mins), Aaron and Hugo Garcia (Diego 82 mins).

7th August 2010

Trofeo de Carranza Second semi-final - Espanyol 1-1 Sevilla(Espanyol won 4-1 on penalties) - The second match of the Trofeo saw two Primera Liga sides battle it out in pretty difficult conditions because the Tribuna has been completely demolished the strong Levant wind was making life difficult on the pitch. Both sides looked in pre-season mode as they strolled around with little purpose or passion in the early stages and it wasn't until after the 16th and 22nd minute when the images of Dani Jarque, the ex Espanyol player, and Antonio Puerta, the ex Sevilla player, who both tragically collapsed and died, in 2009 and 2007 respectively, whilst in their early twenties whilst playing, were shown on the screens around the Carranza in tribute to their memory with the timing in respect of the numbers they wore, that the game improved. It was Espanyol who had the first chance in the 24th minute after Chicas shot was deflected to the feet of Callejon but his shot was well saved by Palop, the Sevilla keeper, who tipped it behind for a corner. The next real chance came in the 41st minute when Squillachi lost the ball in a dangerous position and Luis Garcia slotted the ball home to make it 1-0 to Espanyol. In the final minute of the half Chica fouled Perotti in the box and it was a penalty to Sevilla, which Kanoute fire straight down the middle to make it 1-1 at half time.

The second half was not flowing either because of the conditions and the many substitutions but Callejon and Osvaldo went close for Espanyol and Kanoute was not far away for Sevilla. However it wasn't until late in the game when Sevilla were awarded a penalty but this time Negredo, who had come on as a sub, took the ball instead of Kanoute. His penalty effort was saved by Kameni diving to his left and so at full time it remained 1-1 and it was down to the dreaded penalty shoot out again for the second night running. This time it was much more clear cut with Kameni saving the second Sevilla penalty by Romaric and Perotti missing the third, whilst Espanyol didn't miss and so the final score was 4-1 in the shoot out with Espanyol through to meet Athletico Madrid in the final at 22.00 tomorrow. Cadiz will take on Sevilla in the consolation game at 18.30.

6th August 2010

Trofeo de Carranza First semi-final - Cadiz 1-1 Athletico Madrid(Athletico won 5-6 on penalties) - In the first match of this years trophy the opening half didn't show too much good football with los amarillos having a lot of the ball and looking dangerous at times going forward but the players need more time to gel as a unit, whilst the Primera Liga visitors were quite happy to try and break quickly when the Cadiz moves broke down. Neither side really created much with Arriaga probably having the best chances but failing to find the target and Dani, in the Cadiz goal, only having one save to make from Jurado. The second half started 20 minutes later as there were some problems with the flood lights but when it did start it was much the same initially with neither side dominating or taking control of the match.

With plenty of substitutions and the game drawing to the end suddenly there were opportunities at both ends with Arriaga again the biggest culprit for Cadiz when he should have scored in a play with Velasco but he had ventured offside. At the other end Jurado looked dangerous and Dani made a great save when he scooped the ball out with the Athletico players claiming it had crossed the line but the referee waved away their protests. With just seven minutes left Cifu was brought down in the box and up stepped Aaron to slot the ball home to make it 1-0 to Cadiz. This spurred the visitors on and three minutes later an effort from Aguero flew just wide of the post and then just one minute from time Dani made a rash challenge on Aguero giving the referee no option but to award a penalty. Aguero picked himself up and slotted the spot kick home to make it all square but it time added on Dani went from villain to hero when he thwarted the Athletico scorer in a one on one and the result was a draw at the final whistle. So to penalties and first blood was to Cadiz when Dani saved from Jurado giving the advantage to los amarillos, which they held until the score was 4-4 with Velasco taking the all important fifth shot for Cadiz but he blasted it wide of the mark and so it was back to all square. Arriaga had his effort saved by Joel and so the red and white stripes won through to the final 5-6.

Cadiz line up: Dani, Cifu, Silva, Baquero (German 64mins), Raul Lopez (Tiri 40mins); Alvaro Silva (Moke 64mins), Enrique (Velasco 64mins), Carlos Caballero, Fran Cortes (Lolo 84mins), Diego (Aaron 74mins) and Arriaga.

31st July 2010

Sanlucar 2-3 Cadiz - The starting line up for Cadiz were: Campos, Cifu, Alvaro Silva, Baquero, Raul Lopez, Lolo, Jurado, Enrique, Diego, Carlos Caballero and Arriaga. In this third preseason friendly as has been the case in the other matches it was the local side who started better and in the 12th minute they were ahead after Javi converted a corner from the left with poor marking at the back by Cadiz.  Los amarillos gradually got into it and were looking particularly good down the flanks with Enrique having an excellent game, in the 20th minute his header was just the wrong side of the post, 8 minutes later he had a golden chance but this time his effort was straight at the keeper and then he put in Arriaga who shot wide from the edge of the area with an open goal beckoning. For the first time thus far the Manager didn't put on a new eleven but used the following at some stage: Dani, Tiri, Pecci, German, Moke, Ruben Díaz, Velasco, Jose Miguel Caballero and Hugo. Los amarillos started the half strongly and soon looked as if they would be on terms when they were awarded a penalty early on. Carlos Caballero, who had another good game, took the spot kick but fired wide but just two minutes later Arriaga converted an Enrique cross to make it 1-1. Another two minutes later in the 51st minute Enrique put Cadiz ahead when he beat the keeper after a good cross from Cifu to make it 1-2. Shortly afterwards and it was 1-3 when Carlos Caballero crossed and the ball went in off Chiqui, the Sanlucar defender for an own goal. Sanlucar didn't give up and they were just one behind again when Antonito fired in a super left foot effort in the 71st minute, making it 2-3 and hope that they could get a result but despite all their best efforts the match ended with another victory for Cadiz to make it three out of three.

Next up is the Trofeo de Carranza where the opposition should be rather more challenging and it will be interesting to see how Cadiz fare.

29th July 2010

Chiclana 1-2 Cadiz - In front of a crowd of 500 in the Municipal stadium in Chiclana, it was the home side that dominated the early possession against the starting line up for Cadiz of: Juanfer, Cifu, German, Baquero, Tiri, Fran Cortes, Moke, Enrique, Diego, Jose Miguel Caballero and Hugo García and it was Chiclana who opened the scoring after just eleven minutes and it was another poor defensive play. This time Tiri played the ball short to Juanfer in the Cadiz goal and Julio nipped in to slot the ball past the Cadiz keeper to make it 1-0. When Cadiz had the ball going forward they looked good but as soon as they lost it they were chasing shadows and no doubt Vidakovic will be working on that part of their game in the coming weeks before the season starts. Just after the half hour mark, against the run of play los amarillos were back on terms when Baquero converted. For the second half a new eleven started for Cadiz: Dani, Pecci, Alvaro Silva, Ruben Diaz, Raul Lopez, Jury, Juanito, Lolo, Arriaga, Carlos Caballero and Ruben Perez and as in the previous game the second half performance was the better although far from good enough to be competing for promotion from the Segunda B, but it is very early days for the trainer and the players. As in the game against Rota it was Carlos Caballero who had the final say when he fired in a free kick from almost 40 yards out that flew into the net with Antonio, the Chiclana keeper, only able to get his fingers to it and it gave the win to los amarillos 1-2.

Next up is a trip to Sanlucar on Saturday with the match kicking off at 21.30

24th July 2010

Rota & Rotena 1-3 Cadiz - The preseason friendlies started last night with Cadiz taking ona combination of players from Roat and Rotena football clubs. The line up for the first half for los amarillos was : Dani, Pecci, Jesus, Alvaro Silva, Raul Lopez, Alvaro Jurado, Lolo, Josemi Caballero, Velasco, Dieguito and Toedtli. The match didn´t start well for the visitors as the home side went ahead in the 8th minute after a mistake by Alvaro Silva allowed Caballero, from Rotena, to beat Dani to make it 1-0. Just before the quarter hour Pecci put a good cross over and Velasco fired in a super volley to make it all square at half time, the bad news for Cadiz was that Toedtli picked up a knock that forced him off the pitch. For the second half  Vidakovic sent on a completely new eleven of: Alvaro Campo, Tiri, German, Ruben Díaz, Cifu, Juanito, Fran Cortes, Enrique, Arriaga, Carlos Caballero and Hugo Garcia and it must be said that the second half team were able to control the game a lot better with new signing, Hugo Garcia putting los amarillos ahead in the 60th minute and Carlos Caballero finished the scoring seven minutes later to make the final score 1-3.

24th July 2010

Cadiz CF: The economic situation of the club has been subject of some concern for the last few years and with another drop to the Segunda B this season, the club, has this week filed for bankruptcy with a shortfall of almost €10m in the accounts. The club will be allowed to continue under the supervision of Administrators. This economic problem has already seen several players leave the club and those players still at the club and under contract who played last year will be trying to negotiate an amicable salary for this season. One of the casualties of the cash crisis would appear to be Bezares, who was recalled from loan by Esparrago, but is unable, at the moment,  to agree new terms with the club in the Segunda B. Thus far the `on loan´ players have all left the club namely: Casilla, Zlamal, Ogbeche, Ramis, Bogunovic and Jaume. Those who have had their contracts rescinded after being unable to agree new terms are: De La Cuesta, Fragoso, Cristian, Erice and Abraham. Those out of contract who have moved on are Mansilla, Nano and Fleurquin, who after 6 years at the club has returned to finish his career in Uruguay at the club where he started. Only four players have definitely agreed new terms and they are: Dani, Raul Lopez, Lopez Silva and Fran Cortes. The club is still to finalise negotiations with Caballero, Ormazabal, Cifu, Alvaro Silva, Enrique and Toedtli.

The next friendly will be against Chiclana on Thursday, 29th July also kicking off at 21.30 and then on Saturday, 31st July Cadiz will play Sanlucar with the kick off time still to be announced.

First of all very many congratulations to Spain, who recently triumphed in the World Cup in South Africa, under the leadership of Vincent Del Bosque, who was briefly involved with Cadiz a few years back when brought in by Baldasano, who was supposed to be buying the club from Antonio Munoz but as we all know that eventually fell through.

Welcome to the new 2010/2011 season, which is the centenary year for the club, regrettably starting back in the Segunda B. After the relegation from the Segunda A, Antonio Munoz, the President, Julio Peguero, the Sport Director and Victor Esparrago have all stepped down and been replaced. The new Managing Director is Santiago Pozas and his vice-President is Javier Moyano; the new coach has been named as Hristo Vidakovic an ex Serbian player who was most recently an assistant coach with the Serbian national team and the new Sports Director will be Roberto Suarez, who played for 4 years at the club between 2002 and 2006.
